Free day for kids at the Newseum

Event: ‘Yes, Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus’
Saturday, December 11, 2010
11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Join us for a day of special events and activities for all ages, inspired by Francis P. Church’s 1897 New York Sun editorial assuring 8-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon that there was, indeed, a Santa Claus.

• Hear a reading of the heartwarming Sun editorial — with a special appearance by you-know-who!

• Why would a newspaper write about Santa Claus? Learn what newspaper editorials are all about and even try writing your own.

• Make your own snow globe and recycle old newspapers into beautiful holiday wreaths.

• Enjoy live performances of holiday carols.

• Breaking news! Record a Santa sighting at our “Be a TV Reporter” experience.

FREE admission for every child who brings a new, unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots. Buy one general admission ticket between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. any Saturday or Sunday and get another one free.
